Brother Jon heads back to Chicago

Jerry's brother Jon took off yesterday, after a weekend of UT and Round Rock baseball, family gatherings – plus a scandalous hint of sight-seeing. Notes on the photos are below the photos themselves.

Slide 1: Sunday night, daughter Rose and her husband Charlie joined us for dinner and a movie (Memento with Guy Pearce – which was Jon's own fault for saying he likes bizarre movies).

Slide 2: Monday morning, Jon, Jerry, and I visited Enoteca – a fantastic Italian bistro on Congress Avenue – where we partook of some awesome carrot cake and INDESCRIBABLE lemon panne cotta!!! (Thanks and kisses go out to Tanya Winters for the recommendation!)

Slide 3: We said good-bye to Jon at Austin-Bergstrom around 1:30PM. It was pouring rain, but, his plane took off fine, and Jon is back to where he once belonged.

Other photos of Jon during his visit:

Enjoy!

We met Jerry's brother Jon (above in St. Louis Cardinal red windbreaker and hat) at the airport yesterday morning, and took him to Central Market to shop for the weekend, then, to Trattoria Lisina – a fantastic Italian restaurant in Driftwood, Texas, in the middle of nowhere (i.e., empty-looking Hill Country ranch land all around).

Follow Sean and follow Shayla

Sean and Christina are two of my closest friends. Sean stays at home during the week to care for their lovely child Shayla. He's posting regularly to his Posterous blog and to Twitter to capture every moment—and probably to keep his sanity. I look forward to catching up with them every morning when I get my Posterous subscriptions.

It looks as if Daddy is in time out.

Joe doin' great!

Celebrating—at Madam Mam's Thai restaurant—the removal of staples from Joe's scalp following an attack on his person last week by a mad bicyclist.

Life boils down to two choices

Should I...get a dog?

Or have children?

Thanks, Steve!

Joe back home from hospital doing well

As I posted earlier, our son Joe was attacked at the side of a street near his ordinarily peaceful neighborhood. He was taken to St. David's by EMS covered in blood. It turns out Joe wrestled the miscreant who attacked him to the ground and had him in a headlock. As he lost blood he lost his grip and the guy got away.

Bottom line: Joe has no internal bleeding, no skull fractures. He has a tetanus shot and three staples in his head just back from his hairline. He now looks back to normal and back home with Kristin and a little bottle of pain killers.

Update on the attack on Joe Daniels - road rage likely

OK, Joe was not attacked at work as we thought. The officer who called us said "Austin Police" and we heard "Austin Pizza" the place where Joe works. As it turns out, Joe was driving his car near his neighborhood when a guy on a bike started yelling at him. Joe pulled over to see if there was something wrong with his car, or what. Then the guy got off his bike and spit on Joe, yelling, etc. Then he hit Joe over the head with a wrench and, I guess, took off. Sounds like road rage at this point. Joe has no idea what set the guy off.

As passerby stopped and called the police. Joe's entire face was obscured by blood, so it looked very bad, indeed. Mary Jane is down at St. David's with Joe's wife Kristen, right now. She says the cut isn't as bad as all the blood would indicate, but Joe's entire head is bandaged. The nurses, para-meds, etc. have been treating Joe, so no doctor to say if it's a concussion, how many stitches, etc. Joe is nauseated, so it's likely a concussion.

I'll keep you posted.

Our son Joe attacked by guy with wrench

Friends, relatives...

Our 26 year old son Joe was attacked while working at Austin's Pizza by a guy with a wrench. An officer on the scene called us and we had brief words with Joe as EMS was taking him to St. David's on Ben White. Joe is in shock and likely suffering from a concussion. I will keep you posted on his condition. Prayers for his well being and our strength to help him, greatly appreciated.
